Is pre-settlement funding legal in my state?
It depends on the state, and the map changed materially in 2026. North Carolina banned third-party litigation funding outright in June 2026; New York's Consumer Litigation Funding Act took effect the same month; and Georgia has required NMLS registration since January 2026. Get Lit Money funds in 20 states plus the District of Columbia.
Several states require a license or registration a funder must hold before advancing there, and several others cap the rate that may be charged. We do not operate in any state where we would need a license we do not hold, or where our flat pricing would conflict with a statutory cap.
A state we do not serve is not always a state where funding is unavailable — usually it means a licensed funder can help and we cannot. The exception is North Carolina, where nobody can.
We publish a page on the law state by state, including states we cannot serve, with what your options are there instead.
