Should I accept the first settlement offer?
Usually not without your attorney's advice. First offers are typically opening positions rather than valuations, and they often arrive early precisely because the insurer expects financial pressure to make a low number look acceptable.
An offer made before your treatment is complete cannot account for care you have not had yet. Once you accept and sign a release, the case is over — there is no reopening it if you need surgery six months later.
Your attorney can tell you what comparable cases have resolved for in your jurisdiction. That is the comparison that matters, not whether the number sounds large.
If the reason you are considering it is that you cannot pay rent this month, that is the problem worth solving separately. It is the most common reason people call us.
