What happens to my advance if I switch lawyers?
The advance follows the case, not the attorney. If you change firms, the lien remains against the settlement and your new attorney is given notice of it in the same way — but tell us when it happens so the file is not disrupted.
Your original firm may also assert its own lien for work already done, which is negotiated between the two firms out of the settlement. That is separate from ours.
Switching attorneys does not change your terms with us. The rate, the schedule and the cap are set by the funding date, not by who is representing you.
Do let us know. If we are chasing a file with a firm that no longer has your case, everything slows down for no reason.
